Healing in Motion: Venita’s Dance Back to Independence
Venita came to us in April after a serious fall left her with a broken shoulder, debilitating pain, and severe swelling that affected her entire right arm. She lost full function of both her hand and shoulder, and even needed assistance just to walk through our doors at Mid America Rehab. Forced to leave her home, she moved in with her daughter to get the help she needed.
Thanks to the intensive care provided by the team at Mid America Rehab, which focused on reducing swelling and improving her range of motion, Venita made remarkable progress. Working with Sara Henneman, PT, and Paget Cook, PTA, along with the rest of the team, nearly four months later, this determined 93-year-old was not only back at home but driving again!
During one of her sessions, Sara asked if there was anything else Venita wished she could do again. Her answer? “I’d like to get back to dancing!” With that goal in mind, Venita began working with the team at Mid America Rehab in the gym to improve her balance. Before long, she was thrilled to announce that she was back to dancing with her friends.
When asked about her passion, Venita simply smiled and said, “Dancing is the best way to exercise!” To celebrate her victory, she even taught Sara, Paget, and Dylan her favorite dance moves. Venita’s journey is proof that it’s never too late to get back to doing what you love.
In the words of one of her favorite songs, this 93-year-old “crazy little woman” made an incredible transformation and we are so grateful to be a part of that journey!
